A while back I had a discussion with my Dad about blogging and he said something very profound..."Bloggers are egocentric and think the world revolves around them." I have been thinking about this for sometime. What drives folks to blog AND why do folks spend so much time reading them? For me, I guess the reason I started blogging was two fold- I wanted to be able to connect with my students and have a way to jog their memory about exactly how we did what in class..... AND the other reason was more of a general thing in that folks are always asking me how to earn a living creating/crafting..... I figured blogging would be a way to share the things I have learned and do the whole pay it forward, tip my hat to all those folks who invested in me and were such amazing mentors. I have made too many mistakes not to share those with others :) The funny thing is, normally I tend to be a bit more private and although I love to talk and interact with folks, I like doing it in person not over the computer.
Now, why do I LOVE reading blogs..... I love people. I find people fascinating and I think non-fiction is always better than fiction hands down. Seriously, sometimes there is stuff that is just so cool, so weird, so funny, so real that you can't make it up, not even if you tried. I know that meeting new folks and sharing those experiences makes me a better communicator and artist. I could not write articles or design projects as a profession if I was not inspired by the synergy and organic experience of a classroom full of people. Make it a point in your own artistic journey to constantly ask yourself, "Why are you here?", "What is it that motivates you to create?" Write this stuff down, it is where inspiration begins.
